The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has condemned the acting of security officers posing as journalists covering the anti-government protests to arrest protestors.
In a statement, the council said the impersonation of journalists by the police is a grace unprofessional misconduct on the part of the police and endangers the lives of journalists in the line of duty.
This comes after a section of security officers were filmed impersonating journalists in Nairobi to arrest those protesting against the high cost of living.
MCK stated that the work of journalists is protested under Articles 33,34, and 35 of the Constitution, “a right that should be respected by all.”
At the same time, the council lauded the release of journalists who were arrested while covering the protests.
