A Kenyan court has slapped a medic found guilty of terrorism charges with a 12-year-imprisonment.
Mohamed Abdi Ali alias Abu Ramzi was found guilty of being a member of a terrorist group, recruitment of members of a terrorist group and possession of articles connected with the commission of a terrorist act.
In her ruling, Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku said she considered the gravity of the offences committed and sentenced the suspect to 12 years’ imprisonment for each count, with the five jail terms running concurrently from the time the suspect was arrested.
The suspect was arrested at a medical facility in Wote, Makueni County, where he was working as an intern medic.
Ramzi is reported to have completed his studies at a university in Kampala, Uganda.
The prosecutionThe prosecution presented 25 witnesses, including Uganda’s Counterterrorism detectives, Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) agents, and Kenya’s Antiterrorism Police.
