A chilling murder has rocked the Karai area of Naivasha after detectives arrested a 30-year-old nanny who led authorities to a shallow grave behind her employer’s home, where the decomposing body of her boss was found.
Mary Chebet, who worked as a live-in nanny, was arrested by detectives from Naivasha Sub-County in connection with the brutal murder of 35-year-old Jane Wambui Njoroge, a nurse at Naivasha Sub-County Hospital. Jane was reported missing by her husband on July 4 after she failed to return home from work.
Investigations swiftly began, with detectives narrowing their focus on Chebet, who had also gone missing following Jane’s disappearance. During intense interrogation, Chebet allegedly confessed and led officers to the victim’s residence, where a disturbing scene awaited.

Behind the house, in a shallow grave hastily covered with loose soil and debris, officers exhumed the body of Jane Wambui. According to preliminary findings, pieces of clothing had been tightly wound around her neck, pointing to possible strangulation.
Public health officers were present at the scene to assist in the exhumation and secure the remains for forensic analysis.
“With the assistance of public health officers, the decomposing body was exhumed with pieces of clothes tightly wrapped around the victim’s neck,” said DCI.
Chebet remains in police custody as detectives finalize their case ahead of her arraignment in court. The motive behind the heinous killing is yet to be fully established.
