Kenya had tested 1,866,825 people for the coronavirus as of Sunday, announced the Ministry of Health (MoH).
The East African nation has been slow in testing its citizens due to shortages of testing kits, with many public hospitals unable to conduct the exercise. The country’s daily average testing is 2,500.
MoH on Sunday announced 161 new cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 175,337. The cases were detected from 2805 samples tested between Saturday and Sunday.
Out of 161, 158 were Kenyans, and the rest were foreigners, with 81 being males and 80 females. The youngest patient was two months old and the oldest 91.
The death toll hit 2410 after Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced 14 more deaths.
177 more patients recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 120208—one hundred thirteen of them under the home-based care programme and 64 in hospitals across the country.
The total number of patients admitted to hospitals and homes were 957 and 4796, respectively.
I51 patients are in the ICU, with 29 patients on ventilator support, 106 on supplemental oxygen, and 20 under observation.
As of Sunday, 1,113,158 had been vaccinated, 986,881 being first doses and 126,277 second doses.
Kenya reported its first case on March 13, 2020.
