A police officer is nursing injuries on the face and arms after a group of motorists beat him when he tried to escape after his vehicle hit two pedestrians in Nairobi’s Lang’ata road.

Zackary King'ori Mwangi, attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was reported to have knocked down the victims in the busy road before fleeing the scene on Thursday evening.

However, the officer in the company of a lady was pursued by angry motorists who descended on him with beatings, only to be rescued by a policewoman controlling the traffic.

The police report indicates that the officer was driving on the wrong side of the road when he hit the pedestrians. His vehicle was damaged on the front bumper due to the accident, and the motorcyclists had smashed the left side windscreen.

Mwangi told the police that he was rushing to pick a patient at Karen hospital who was in distress.

The two pedestrians who were in serious condition were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
