Two armed thugs were killed on Tuesday afternoon following a fierce shootout between officers based at Njiru in Nairobi and three armed gangsters on a robbery mission.
In a statement, police said the officers on routine patrol along Kangudo road in an unmarked vehicle had noticed a suspicious motorbike whose pillion passengers were preying on their next victim.
They immediately intercepted the bike and asked the thieves to identify themselves. But the defiant trio answered with gunfire, provoking a shootout that killed two of them on the spot.
The third suspect managed to escape from the scene, and a manhunt was launched.
Police managed to recover a firearm loaded with three rounds of 9mm calibre. It was discovered that the gun had been snatched from a senior officer within Embakasi police station mid-last December.
Crime scene detectives later processed the scene and recovered the relevant exhibits before moving the bodies of the slain duo to the City mortuary.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
