Nairobi’s road renamed Raila Odinga way

The Nairobi County government has renamed Mbagathi Way after the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The new signage was reportedly installed on the busy roadway on Thursday night, following a motion sponsored by the County’s Minority Whip Peter Imwatok in October to rename the road after the former Prime Minister.

According to the Imwatok, Odinga should be honoured for his contribution to Kenya’s democratic and economic development that has spanned for many years.

“He fought for greater democratic space, good governance, rule of law and development of infrastructure, including detention without trial for 10 years,” he said.

Imwatok noted that the national government should applaud such individuals for their roles in shaping Kenya’s political atmosphere when they are alive and not in the event of death.
