A suspect accused of impersonating the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was on Thursday arraigned before the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Laban Mutuku Lola was charged for allegedly soliciting and receiving Ksh150,000 from a senior public official, pretending that he could assist his wife in securing employment at the National Intelligence Service.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, he denied the charges.
He was released on a bond of Ksh300,000 with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Ksh 200,000.
The matter will be mentioned on October 17, 2023.
The suspect was arrested by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission(EACC) detectives from his hideout in Umoja 3 Estate, Nairobi, on Wednesday.
He had been on the run since April 24, 2023.
While on the run, the suspect is reported to have continued extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.
He pretended that he was in a position to secure them employment at NIS and other strategic Government agencies.
