The National Environment Management Authority of Kenya (NEMA) has urged all applicants with pending licenses, permits, approvals, or registration certificates submitted before August 1, 2025, to promptly follow up on their applications by September 30, 2025.

In a public notice released on September 16, NEMA stated that applicants need to visit the respective offices where they submitted their applications to resolve any outstanding technical review issues. This step is crucial for moving forward with a final Record of Decision.

“The Authority wants to remind all clients with pending applications submitted before August 1, 2025, to reach out to the NEMA offices where they made their submissions. It’s important to address any pending technical review issues to facilitate a Record of Decision by September 30, 2025,” the notice explained.

NEMA also warned that failure to comply could lead to decisions being made based on the documents already submitted and existing records.

Those who are unsuccessful will need to submit new applications under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) Cap 387 and related regulations.

As the main government advisor on environmental issues, NEMA noted its dedication to improving the efficiency of approvals while protecting Kenya’s environment.
