On Thursday, a vehicle accident involving a school bus and a motorcycle on Webuye-Bungoma Road, western Kenya, killed one person and injured several.

The minibus carrying 28 students from Christ the King Primary School was on its route to Bungoma from Webuye when it crashed with the motorcycle at Sikita Bridge, according to police.

The motorcyclist was said to have entered the wrong lane.

Patrick Masinde Moti, the motorcycle’s rider, died on the spot, while Salome Fuchaka, the passenger, suffered minor injuries to her left leg and was rushed to Bungoma Referral Hospital for treatment.

The 28 students and their driver, John Barasa, were transferred to Bungoma West Hospital for treatment with minor injuries.

“Upon arriving at the accident site, the motorcyclist quickly veered right without appropriate care, causing the vehicle to collide with the motorcycle and lose control, landing in a ditch on the left side,” according to a police report.
