Online shopping fraudsters emerge in Kenya as festive season approaches

Kenyans have been told to be careful when shopping online, especially during the festive season.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations, in a statement, said that they have received numerous reports from clients who ordered goods advertised on social networking sites, primarily on Instagram. Still, the goods were either not delivered or the quality not similar to what was advertised.

The agency noted that the ladies are the majority of those who have fallen victim and lost their money through such frauds.

DCI advised Kenyans to first ascertain the identity of the seller and the address of their businesses before making purchases.

“Resist the temptation to send money to perceived genuine dealers, who later turn out to be cons,” said DCI.
