Police in Migori County, Southwestern Kenya, have arrested a woman in connection to his 15-year-old son's death.

The businesswoman in Migori was arrested on Monday evening after neighbours discovered her son's lifeless body in her house.

According to Migori County Police boss Mark Wanjala, the boy died as a result of injuries inflicted on him by his mother on the night of January 1.

The suspect left her home on Monday morning, thinking her son, a form two student at a nearby school, was sleeping off the pounding he had suffered the night before.

Wanjala said the authorities have not yet determined the boy's cause of death, and the mother was shocked to learn about it.

"The deceased's body had a few bruises on his knees, but we assume he may have suffered inside damage throughout the encounter," Wanjala explained.

The mother admitted to beating the deceased, but she claimed her eldest son was present as well.

The deceased's body has been sent to Migori Level IV Hospital for pending autopsy as investigations continue.

The woman is currently being held at Oruba Police Station and will be arraigned in court and charged with murder.
