Motorists have been cautioned of traffic interruptions on some Nairobi routes on Friday when the late former President Mwai Kibaki's memorial service will be held at the Nyayo Stadium.

In a statement issued on Thursday, police spokesperson Bruno Shioso asked vehicles to avoid Aerodrome Road and a part of the Uhuru Highway between the Nyayo House and Lusaka roundabouts beginning at 7 a.m.

"A procession to the stadium led by the Kenya Defence Forces will affect the flow of traffic on some parts of the procession route, namely Procession Way, Kenyatta Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Aerodrome Road as they proceed to the stadium,” said Shioso.

Vehicles driving from Waiyaki way and intend to cross over to Mombasa Road have been directed to divert at the Nyayo House roundabout and join Kenyatta Avenue towards Moi Avenue heading to Haile-Sellasie roundabout.

Bruno added that “those from Mombasa Road intending to access the Central Business District (CBD) or Westlands should use the Southern Bypass, or Likoni Enterprise and Lusaka roads to avoid inconveniences along Uhuru Highway.

Motorists attending the State Funeral Service at Nyayo Stadium will not be permitted to park unless they have parking access stickers.

All other vehicles without parking access stickers will only be allowed to drop guests off and proceed to park at Langata Road Primary School or Green Park.
