Three suspected robbers have been shot dead in Kahawa West, Nairobi after they attempted to mug a police officer.

The incident took place on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, in the morning hours.

A gang is claimed to have been attacking and robbing passersby in the slum in the morning, prompting the police to set up an ambush.

Nairobi Police Commissioner James Mugera said a group of officers pretended to be pedestrians when they were attacked, causing a fatal resistance. The suspects died on the spot.

A pistol that had three bullets and five mobile phones believed to have been stolen from other pedestrians were recovered.

"The suspects lacked identifying documents, and efforts to identify them are ongoing," Mugera stated.

Their bodies were moved to morgue for postmortem and identification.

The locals had complained about repeated attacks in the early morning hours.
