The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has launched an investigation into an incident in which a 10-year-old boy was hit by a speeding vehicle driven by a woman at Guji in Majengo, along the Kakamega - Kisumu highway, south-western Kenya.
The December 28, 2021 incident left the victim, Trevis Savonge, with severe injuries.
According to the DCI, the minor was rushed to the Vihiga County referral hospital by well-wishers. He was later transferred to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.
The agency said that boy almost lost one leg since it suffered multiple fractures.
Following the incident, public members flooded the DCI social media platforms, urging George Kinoti’s led team to investigate the matter.
“Members of the public have urged the DCI to investigate the matter after a concerned well-wisher highlighted it on her social media pages. The complaint has since been noted and referred to the relevant department,” said the DCI.
The boy’s family have been urged to stay calm since the motorist will finally be made to account for her crime.
“Motorists who cause accidents and disappear are hereby cautioned that they can run but cannot hide. The lives of pedestrians and other road users are equally precious,” added the DCI.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
