A police officer who shot dead his boss in Naivasha, northwest of Nairobi, has been arrested.

The unidentified officer was arrested after being traced to a pub in Nakuru, Kenya's Rift Valley.

The officer attached to Utheri Wa Lari police station is expected to be transferred to Naivasha for interrogation over the Sunday incident.

“He will be transferred to Naivasha for further questioning,” said Nakuru County Police Commander Beatrice Kiraguri.

Reports indicate that the junior officer reported working late and was angered when his boss, senior Sergeant Ayub Polo, questioned him why he arrived late and while inebriated.

He took a loaded gun with him and fired at his senior boss five times before fleeing the crime scene.

Upon completing the investigation, he will be arraigned in a court of law to face murder charges.
