A police officer was swept away by a raging flood on Sunday evening in Nairobi.

David Cherise, the officer attached at Kamukunji police station, was swept away at Nairobi’s country bus while helping to rescue four people trapped by the flash floods.

The officer reportedly was in the company of his officers when he came across three women and one child trapped in one of the stalls where a concrete caved in.

The incident prompted officers to respond quickly, resulting in the successful rescue of four people.

However, when the missing officer returned to close the stalls, the remaining concrete slab collapsed, sweeping him away in the floods.

The report also stated that the officer’s AK47 rifle, which was loaded with ammunition, was swept away by the flooding.

The search for the officer and the firearm is ongoing.
