Police officers rescued a Kenyan pastor after he has hijacked by armed gunmen in Nairobi.
John Dinguri Chege, 57, of Kabete Anglican Church, was kidnapped on Thursday at 8 pm (EAT) by four armed men as he drove home in his vehicle, a White Nissan Advan.
Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that after the thugs took control of the vehicle, they commandeered it towards the Kiamumbi area in Kiambu County, Central Kenya.
Upon receiving the tip-off, the security officers pursued the gangsters and caught up with them before reaching their destination.
The suspects were ordered to surrender, but they defied the orders prompting a shootout that left two shooters dead.
Two other suspects disappeared in the dead of night with gunshot wounds.
Police recovered a Smith and Wesson pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm calibre and a knife.
The chase for the two suspects is under the way.
The motive of the hijacking is yet to be established.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
