Inspector of General Police (IG) Japhet Koome has cautioned politicians against making reckless utterances on police officers' transfer and dismissal.

The warning was issued following reports that some politicians had threatened to transfer or dismiss a section of police officers.

"Such utterances are null and void. The National Police Service is an independent Constitutional Office with direction and command under the Inspector General," said Japhet Koome.

Koome asked leaders, especially politicians, to refrain from making public utterances likely to cause disaffection within the National Police Service.

He further directed all Police Commanders to continue discharging their official duties professionally without favour or fear of intimidation.
