The Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Defence (MOD), Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed, on Monday presided over the 2022 workshop on Financial Expenditure Management at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies, Nairobi.

The forum brought together over 100 officials, both Military and MOD civilian officers. It aimed at building competency and capacity for the participants to enhance effective, efficient, and economical utilization of public resources allotted to their departments.

In his opening speech, the PS urged participants to always adhere to the financial guidelines as set by the National Treasury and Defence Headquarters.

“We must be cautious of the dire consequences of the pending bills which entail: Budget slashing by the Treasury, imposition of interest, frequent appearance before the established constitutional bodies and unending court litigations,” he warned.

He further called upon the officials to ensure that all pending bills are paid promptly and that the projects are managed professionally for maximum absorption of the Ministry’s resource allocation.

He emphasized that in the last four years, MOD has performed exemplarily in matters of financial management due to the strict adherence to the Ministry’s financial policy and timely implementation of its projects.
