Robber with violent suspects escape from a Kenyan court

Two men facing robbery with violence accusations escaped from Ukwala law courts cells in Siaya, southwestern Kenya.

According to a police report, the two suspects who were brought to court for prosecution fled from lawful police custody through an unlocked court cell door that was guarded by three policemen.

The accused, 20-year-old Joseph Otieno Okemo and 22-year-old Francis Omondi Owino, have been detained in the Siaya GK Prison.

Corporal Kennedy Nyambeche, who is in charge of the orderlies at Ukwala Law Court, during the escape said Police Constable Peter Kariuki was shot in the air to scare them off, but it was in vain.

The Ugenya sub-county criminal investigations officer and the area OCS attended the location and confirmed the escape of the two jail remandees, one of whom was injured during the assignment.

As inquiries into the matter begin, a team has already been dispatched to seek for the remandees.
