Police have apprehended a group of notorious gangs that have been robbing motorists of their valuables along busy Nairobi Southern Bypass.
The thugs, six in number, were arrested on Wednesday after they accosted a man who had stopped his vehicle to let his son answer the call of nature, said the country’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Reports indicate that the victim, identified as Tom Onyango, reported the matter immediately to a nearby police station, Lang’ata Police Station, prompting the security officers to take action.
A contingent of officers drawn from general duty, DCI, and a tracker dog from the canine unit were deployed to flush out the suspects, who had taken cover deep in the nearby forest.
“When the officers finally emerged from the forest, they had six suspects in their custody,” said DCI boss George Kinoti.
Onyango and his three-year-old son positively identified three of the suspects.
Motorists who have previously been attacked along the Highway are asked to report to the station to identify the suspects in the next seven days.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
