Robbery Suspect Commits Suicide In Police Cell In Kenya

On Sunday, a suspect in a robbery with violence was reported to have committed suicide at the Nyatieko police station in Kitutu Chache South, southwestern Kenya.

David Ondari, 24, was arrested on Friday, November 19, for allegedly stealing a motorbike.

Plans were being made to arraign him in court on Monday when his body was discovered dangling from the roof of the police cells on Sunday.

"While on report office and cell duty, officers Lucy Njeri Kimani and Emmanuel Koech paid a cell visit and upon checking...they discovered that he had committed suicide using a belt," according to a portion of the police report.

The pair alerted their coworkers, who rushed to the scene. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other top Kisii County officers visited and documented the crime scene.
