Moses Kuria, a long-time political ally of President William Ruto, has officially resigned from his role as Senior Economic Advisor at State House.
In a statement released this evening, Kuria announced that he had met with President Ruto to communicate his decision to step down, a move the President reportedly accepted “graciously.”
Kuria did not disclose the specific reasons for his resignation, only stating that he was stepping aside “to pursue personal interests.”
“I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve,” said Kuria.
“As I move on, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I designed together with the President as our 2022 Electoral Platform.”
Kuria’s exit marks the latest shakeup within President Ruto’s inner circle, and it comes at a politically sensitive time amid mounting public pressure over youth protests and questions about the pace of economic reforms.
The former Gatundu South MP has served in multiple capacities in Ruto’s administration. He was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry in October 2022, where he served for 11 months before being moved to the newly established Ministry of Public Service, Delivery, and Performance Management.
After a nine-month stint there, Kuria was reassigned to the State House in 2024 as Senior Economic Advisor—a role many saw as both strategic and symbolic, considering his close involvement in formulating Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic model.
A polarizing figure in Kenya’s political landscape, Kuria was known for his outspoken style and often unfiltered public remarks.
While his supporters saw him as a passionate advocate of economic reform and pro-business policies, critics frequently accused him of undermining public confidence through combative rhetoric.
