At least 30 people are in hospital following an alleged consumption of contaminated milk in Bomet East, Kenya’s South Rift.
The victims are said to have developed stomachaches after drinking milking purportedly bought from a local vendor. The majority are children and women.
The local authority has revealed that the victims’ conditions are not worse except one being closely monitored by the doctors.
“We received the report from local health officials that there were many cases of patients turning up from Kiptokoch, Tendonok and Bondent villages complaining of stomach ache and vomiting after taking contaminated,” said the local authority.
When questioned by the public health officials, the vendor could not reveal the source of contamination. However, she confessed to mixing milk bought from different farmers.
A group of health officials has been dispatch to the vendor’s shop to collect milk samples to find out the source of the contamination.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
