Kenyan aspiring politician Steve Chege is dead.

Chege, who unsuccessfully vied for the Laikipia Senatorial seat in the August 9 polls, died at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (K.U.T.R.H.) Hospital where he was admitted.

His death was announced by his friend Kiriga Githaiga.

"Good morning, everyone. It is with profound shock and acceptance of God's will that we have received the sad news of Steve's demise. We are still at K.U. Referral hospital following up. The family is here with us at the hospital. Kindly keep them in (your) prayers," Githaiga posted on his Facebook.

Chege was reportedly involved in a fatal road accident along Nairobi's Northern Bypass on Sunday, October 30, and was rushed to the hospital.

At the facility, doctors recommended he be taken to the Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U.), and an online appeal was made that anyone willing to offer blood for Chege to rush there.

A preliminary report indicates that the accident occurred while avoiding hitting a motorbike riding on the wrong side of the road, according to reports. His car hit the rails and crashed, dealing him life-threatening injuries.

"Steve needs a lot of blood, and anyone can donate at K.U.T.R.H. Accident and Emergency wing," an online call that made rounds on social media read in part.

The accident on the Northern By-Pass occurred just weeks after a senior officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) was killed on the same road.

Boniface Muganda died as a result of a hit-and-run accident on the highway.
