Seven Nyandarua County Government Staff before Nakuru Law Courts

Seven staff members from Nyandarua County Government were arraigned today before Nakuru Senior Principal Magistrate Alloys Ndege, facing sixteen counts of attempting to commit an economic crime.

The accused—Esther Muthoni Wamuiya, Regina Wairimu Wacira, Vincent Muiruri Wambui, Sophia Wairimu Karanja, Shadrack Kanyungo Ndirangu, Timothy Ngunjiri Kiragu, and Simon Mwangi Ng’ang’a—are alleged to have engaged in a complex scheme. They fraudulently made payments totalling Ksh12,998,000 ($101000) from public funds to six suppliers for services that were never rendered, a clear violation of their duties and the public’s trust.

The specific charges against them include making fraudulent payments for services not delivered to six suppliers in connection with a purported investment conference that never took place.

They are also accused of engaging in fraudulent practices during the procurement process, abusing their office, and creating documents without authority, specifically a request for quotation.

The prosecution has built a formidable case, with an impressive 32 witnesses set to testify. These witnesses, with their detailed accounts, are expected to shed light on how the accused orchestrated the fraudulent payments for various services, providing a comprehensive view of the alleged crimes.

The court heard that the accused colluded to defraud the county government by initiating and approving payments to six companies under the guise of organizing an investment conference.

The companies reportedly received payments for services ranging from event management to audiovisual equipment and security provisions, which were never delivered as the conference did not occur.
