Property of unknown value was destroyed in Sagana town, central Kenya after a fire gutted down six business premises on Thursday night.
Firefighters and residents had a difficult time putting out the fire that broke out at 11pm (local time).
"We took over five hours to put out the fire that engulfed the premises where we asked for reinforcement from firefighters from our neighbour Murang'a County," said Chief Disaster Management Officer John Kiama.
Although the source of the flame could not be determined immediately, the county disaster management official speculated that it could have been sparked by an iron box in the vicinity.
"We believe the fire was started by an iron box that had been left in one of the buildings," he explained further.
Police have launched investigations to establish the cause of the fire outbreak.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
