South Sudan recorded a maiden 1-0 win over Kenya in a friendly match played on Tuesday at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.
The visitor’s only goal was scored in the second minute of the match by forward Tito Okello following a defensive lapse.
Kenya had the chance to equalize in the 22nd minute, but striker Michael Olunga’s shot went over the bar.
Engin Firat’s charges tried to store parity several times in the second half but were kept at bay by the South Sudanese defenders.
Kenya entered the match on the heels of a dramatic 2-1 triumph against Qatar four days prior and looked to build on that momentum against their opponent.
The East African nation used the friendly matches to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in November 2023.
