Ministry of Environment and Forestry Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo has called on sports persons to partner with the Ministry in environmental conservation, saying there is a strong relationship between sports, health and biodiversity.
Speaking today when he hosted Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei, the PS said athletes should join the government conservation efforts by adopting a forest or any green space within the urban centers which they can utilize to train when fully restored.
“There are over 800 green spaces in the country which require rehabilitation and restoration, Athletics Kenya should encourage athletes to invest in conservation in order to attract funding,” said the PS.
Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei said AK is working to determine its carbon footprints as per the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), undertake systematic efforts to promote greater responsibility, and reduce overall climate impacts and also its undertaking collaborations in the environment sector.
