Suspect arrested for illegally being in a possession of firearm

A multi-agency security team manning a roadblock at Merti junction along the Isiolo-Moyale Highway, Eastern Kenya, has arrested a suspect and recovered an Ekol P29 pistol during a routine check conducted on passengers plying the said route.

At the time of arrest, the suspect and passenger in a Moyale bound bus, 33-year-old Abdulahi Hussein Sharamo, had with him a bunch of miraa (khat) wrapped inside a banana leaf. And upon his turn to undergo the routine screening from the hawk-eyed security personnel, the hesitant suspect was busted for illegally possessing a pistol and two (2) rounds of 9mm ammunition concealed in the miraa wrappings.

Security officers further conducted a body search on the suspect and recovered two (2) additional rounds of ammunition from his pockets.

“The culprit has since been arrested and escorted to Archer’s Post Police Station in Samburu County and he will be processed to answer to charges of ‘Being in possession of a firearm without a firearm certificate’ as further investigations to establish any connection to other criminalities is launched,” said the police.

Police said the multi-agency security teams continue to engage communities on the security situation in the disturbed areas of Marsabit County and its environs in efforts to install sustainable peace and coexistence among communities.

Police is calling upon citizens to stay vigilant at all times and report any suspicious persons and activities to their nearest police station, security and administrative officers.
