The Women in Construction (WIC) forum kicked off in Nairobi on Monday, August 14, 2023.
The event was inaugurated by Road and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
The forum, themed Female Led, Female Built, and Female Powered, intends to highlight the need to encourage more women to enter the construction sector and stimulate women-led businesses and players to define the industry’s future.

The event brings together women developers, contractors, and all associates in the construction sector to promote, recognise and advance their role in the industry.
Speaking during the event, Kipchumba said that despite being fifty-one per cent (51%) of the Kenyan population, only 3 per cent of artisans are women, while a paltry 7.
3 per cent of engineers are registered by the Engineers Board of Kenya.
Also, he revealed that only 15.5 per cent of contractors and 17 per cent of registered quantity surveyors are women.
“To review the status of this sector and make it more accommodating for women, my Ministry, in collaboration with the Office of the Advisor to the President on Women Rights, have the pleasure of inaugurating this year’s Women in Construction Forum 2023, under the theme Female Led, Female Built, Female Powered,” said Kipchumba Murkomen.
The Cabinet Secretary expects that at the end of the conference, further strategic measures will be explored to encourage professional growth and empowerment in the construction sector.
