Three Arrested with Elephant Tusks Worth Ksh2.7 Million

Three suspects found with four pieces of elephant tusks worth Ksh 2.7 million ($19000) have been arrested in Narok, west of Nairobi.

The arrest came following a joint operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Serious Crime Unit detectives and the area police.

Joseph Mutuku, 44, Julius Mwanduka Kiema, 72, and Alfred Nzioka Mutie, 44, were arrested at the Kisiriri area in Narok North.

“The tusks weighing 27kg with an estimated street value of Sh2.

7 million was found in their possession,” said DCI.

The three have been locked up in cells pending arraignment for relevant offences under the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013 (WCMA).
