Police on Friday nabbed five men who tried to rob a bank in Nairobi Central Business District.
The suspects include Charles Mulo, Fredrick Muderwa, Jesse Muriuki, Gabriel Mungai, and Reuben Njuka.
They were arrested by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after their attempt to rob Prime Bank located at Angle House hit a snug.
The police report indicates the five had booked themselves into guest rooms at the stated building, which shares the same wall with the bank.
Police acted on a tip-off from a member of the public to prevent the alleged planned robbery.
“They had planned to drill their way into the bank in the dead of the night. However, detectives got wind of the plan and spoilt their party. They stormed into the building with a thud forcing the thugs to scamper, taking cover in the ceiling like a cornered rat,” reads DCI statement.
The security officers managed to bring the ceiling down, prompting the suspects to surrender.
The officers recovered three hacksaws, one knotted twisted rope, one metal driller, five metal bars, one metal cutter scissors, and one suitcase.
