Two people have been confirmed dead and others injured after suspected Al Shabaab militants attacked travellers along the Lamu-Witu Garsen Highway in Lamu County, Kenya’s Coast.
One of the victims died on the spot, while the other died while receiving medical attention in hospital.
The injured are in the hospital for medical care.
Confirming the incident, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said that the incident took place at Lango la Simba near the border of Lamu and Tana River Counties.
“One person was killed , approximately ten others injured, while a number of those missing are yet to be determined,” said Kindiki.
Security officers who were around responded and engaged about 60 militants, forcing them to flee to a local forest named Boni.
The manhunt for the attackers has been launched.
