Two men suspected of defiling a 16-year-old school-going child after locking her up at lodging in Sotik, Kenya’s South Rift, have been arrested.

A report seen by the Standard Gazette indicates that Linus Nyakundi, 19, and Danface Makori, 22, were spotted by a concerned member of the public at local lodge, who reported to the area assistant chief of having seen them earlier in the company of a young girl.

The assistant chief headed to the said lodging to ascertain the information, where he found the suspects having locked themselves in a room and unwilling to open.

The suspects, however, gave way and surrendered upon arrival of Sotik-based police, whereafter the rescued girl studying at a local high school was escorted to the hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, in Kilungu, Kenya’s southeastern, a 50-year-old man reported to have defiled his 10-year-old daughter while her mother was away is behind bars.

John Muema Ndilu was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after the grade three pupil in the mother’s company booked the report at Kola Police Station.

“Reportedly, Muema had on September 28, 2021, committed the abominable act while his wife, 36, was away fetching water, before threatening to kill the minor if she dared report the incident to anyone,” said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

With the suspect in custody, the girl has been taken to a local hospital for medical examination, pending further police action.
