Police have arrested two suspects who were found in possession of 132 bales of bhang in Mwingi, Kenya’s lower eastern region.
Daniel Yohana and Ismail Wako were nabbed after a truck the duo were travelling in was intercepted along Garissa-Thika Road in the Kyanunda area.
“In the intelligence-led operation conducted by a joint operation team, a KAT 198H Isuzu truck was searched where an initial 28 bales were found on the roof cabin of the vehicle, before it was escorted to DCI headquarters for further processing by the Anti-Narcotics detectives,” said the Directorate of Criminal of Investigations (DCI).
A thorough search discovered that the vehicle contained a deceptive compartment reinforced with sturdy bolts and rails, which concealed 104 bales.
To avoid suspicion, the driver claimed that the vehicle was transporting 31 mattresses for customers awaiting delivery.
The suspects are being held in police custody pending investigations.
In an earlier operation conducted on Thursday, February 8, at Fedha Estate in Embakasi, Nairobi, law enforcement apprehended a 51-year-old woman and her younger male companion. This followed the discovery of 650 grams of heroin sachets in their home.
Mary Adhiambo Opollo and 24-year-old Charles Kimani Wanjiku were arrested at their Fedha Heights apartment after police received a tip about their involvement in drug trafficking.
They were then taken to Muthaiga Police Station for processing pending their arraignment.
