A 39-year-old Kenyan was, on October 24, 2024, arraigned in court to face 36 charges related to child pornography, indecent acts with minors, and child abuse.
The accused, who operated a daycare centre, allegedly used minors, some as young as two years old, to produce explicit content by forcing them to engage in sexual activities. She is also charged with indecently touching the children’s private parts.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), the incriminating images and videos were discovered by chance when the accused misplaced her phone. The phone was found by an individual who accessed its contents while attempting to trace the owner and uncovered the shocking material.
The prosecution opposed the accused’s release on bond, citing worries about her safety and the risk of witness influence, saying the suspect narrowly escaped being lynched by members of the public at the time of her arrest.
Furthermore, the prosecution resisted providing the accused with access to pornographic photographs and films to prepare her case, stating that doing so would risk wider distribution of the objectionable content.
However, they promised the court that the accused would have reasonable access to the evidence required for her case.
The case will be mentioned on November 7, 2024, for a bail or bond application ruling after the court receives a pre-bail report.
