World Vision Kenya has announced the launch of a new program to end child marriage and empower young girls in Narok County, West of Nairobi.
Christened “The Big Dream to End Child Marriage,” the program aims to address the root causes of child marriage and promote opportunities for girls to reach their full potential.
The launch event, held in Narok on Friday, October 25, 2024, was attended by key leaders, including Principal Secretary for Gender and Affirmative Action Anne Wang’ombe and Narok County Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu.
Leaders from seven counties—Narok, Turkana, Marsabit, West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, and Migori—where such initiatives are ongoing also attended.
World Vision Kenya’s “Big Dream” initiative is a continuation of the successful Kenya Big Dream project, which has benefited communities in West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, and Migori during the last five years.
This next phase takes the project to Narok, Turkana, and Marsabit counties, where child marriage is still a major issue, typically exacerbated by poverty, cultural customs, and a lack of education.
“This launch marks the start of an important journey to ensure that girls have access to education, protection, and opportunities for a brighter future—while also supporting boys in the process,” said World Visions Kenya in a statement on their social media platforms.
The program will take a broad approach, providing educational support, legal protection, and the development of practical skills for females. Boys will also be involved in the campaign to promote gender sensitivity and awareness throughout communities.
