Nairobi Deputy Governor Anne Kananu will be sworn in as the new Nairobi City County Governor.
The seat fell vacant following the ouster of former county boss Mike Sonko over graft allegations.
She will be sworn in at the KICC COMESA grounds at 10 a.m., according to a Gazette Notice published by Jairus Musumba, the chairman of the committee on Assumption of Office of the County Governor.
Her inauguration comes after the court rejected an appeal filed by Sonko to prevent Kananu from being sworn in as Nairobi Governor.
Sonko requested t the Supreme Court to halt the oath-taking temporarily until the hearing and final determination of his anticipated appeal.
On the other hand, the Supreme Court held that Sonko’s application was incompetent and did not raise any constitutional interpretation issues because the case is yet to be decided by the Court of Appeal.
“The matter has not been certified as one of general public importance and the Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction to entertain or issue orders concerning Rulings arising from applications from Court of Appeas’ ruing,” ruled the court.
