Barasa Floors Malala In Kakamega Gubernor Race

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has declared Fernandes Baraza as the Governor-elect of Kakamega County.

Barasa of the ODM Party trounced his staunch opponent Cleopas Malala of ANC, in the election held on Monday, August 29, 2022.

He garnered 192,929 votes against 159,508. Cyrus Jirongo of the UDP got 5,974 votes, Michael Osundwa of the Independent Party received 1,146 votes, Suleiman Sumba of the KANU garnered 1,078 votes, Samuel Omukoko of the MDP obtained 761 votes, and Austin Opitso of the MDP got 150 votes.

The IEBC had postponed the county election due to a mix-up of ballot materials during the August 9th General Election.
