Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has suffered a massive blow once again after the High Court declared Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) unconstitutional.
Nairobi Metropolitan Service is one of President Kenyatta’s projects to revitalize the city. Nairobi County and the national government signed a deal that saw the latter assuming some of the functions of the former.
Major General Mohamed Badi heads NMS.
The court on Friday said the law does not recognize the newly formed NMS in a suit filed by the Law Society of Kenya.
The verdict comes a day after the same court ruled that Executive Order No. 1 of 2020, dated January 14, 2020, placing the country’s Judiciary under the control of Kenya’s executive branch, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, was unconstitutional.
“A declaration is issued that the Executive Order No. 1 of 2020 purporting to organise the government and set out Judiciary and it Tribunals, Commissions and Independent bodies under Ministries and Government departments as unconstitutional, null and void ” the High Court ruled.
