Former Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga has joined Kenyans and the international community in mourning the death of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a patriot, a pan-Africanist, a democrat, and one of the greatest leaders Kenya has ever produced.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Maraga expressed profound shock and sorrow at the passing of the veteran statesman, noting that Raila’s contribution to Kenya’s democracy and Africa’s political landscape was immense and transformative.
“I am shocked to learn of the demise of former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, a patriot, a Pan-Africanist, a democrat and a leader who made significant contributions to democracy in Kenya and in Africa,” said Maraga.
“Kenya has lost one of its most formidable leaders who shaped the trajectory of our beloved country. Africa has lost a leading voice in pushing for peace, security and development. The world has lost a great leader.”
The former Chief Justice extended his deepest condolences to his wife Mama Ida Odinga and the entire Odinga family, as well as to the people of Kibra Constituency whom Raila represented for many years and to the people of Siaya County, his home region.
“May the Lord comfort us all as we deal with this enormous blow,” he added.
