A section of women from Kiambu County, central Kenya, are demanding the resignation of their woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba for defecting to Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The women drawn from 12 sub-counties of Kiambu held demonstrations on Friday, castigating Wamuchomba for abandoning President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Some of the placards carried by the protestors seen by the Standard Gazette were written “Wamuchomba must go!” and “Wamuchomba must resign!”
While announcing his defection on Wednesday after meeting the deputy president William Ruto, Wamuchomba said she decided after broad consultation with her constituents.
“I am aligning myself with the deputy president because that is where my people wanted me to be,” she said.
The irate women claimed they were not consulted, noting that nobody asked her to leave the Jubilee party.
“Gathoni made a personal decision which has angered those who voted her on the Jubilee ticket,” one of the protesters told the Standard Gazette.
They demanded her removal from the leadership of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
