Governor Waiguru joins Ruto’s UDA
Governor Anne Wairguru has officially decamped the Jubilee party and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by deputy president William Ruto.
The Kirinyaga Governor confirmed her new move on Tuesday morning after meeting Ruto at his Karen residence in Nairobi.
Waiguru was accompanied by a section of Members of County Assemblies.
“I cannot be ignorant and not listen to the people. I can’t vote myself in, I am listening to what they want,” she said.
The first time governor will be seeking her re-election during next year's polls.
Governor Waiguru's political affiliation has recently been a source of conjecture when she remarked in an interview that defending her position on a Jubilee ticket would be difficult.
President Uhuru Kenyatta heads the jubilee party.
Last month, when speaking to members of the public in Thiba, Mwea Constituency, central Kenya, the governor asked the gathering if they would re-elect her as Governor of Kirinyaga County, to which they responded in the yes.
She went on to ask them again on which ticket she should run for re-election on, and they yelled UDA.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
