Wiper Partriotic Font Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has officially declared his bid for the presidency in the 2027 General Election, vowing to “reclaim Kenya” from what he termed as “failed leadership and economic mismanagement” under President William Ruto’s administration.
Speaking at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, during the Wiper Patriotic Front National Delegates Conference, Musyoka accepted the party’s nomination to be its presidential flag bearer, promising to restore “hope, stability, and dignity” to the nation.
“With a deep sense of duty and high resolve, I accept your nomination to be your presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election,” Musyoka said to a cheering crowd.
“I accept it with a full and grateful heart without reservation and with one obligation: to devote every effort of body, mind, and spirit to lead this exceptional Patriotic Front to victory and restore hope and stability to our beloved nation.”
The former Vice President criticized President Ruto’s administration over what he described as “over-taxation, corruption, and mismanagement of the economy.”
He accused the government of overburdening Kenyans through punitive levies and driving investors out of the country.
“Each day dawns with a new levy, a new penalty, and a new heartbreak. We pay taxes for services we never receive, no jobs, no medicine, no food, and no relief. This is not taxation for development; it is taxation for the survival of a few who know Ruto,” said Kalonzo.
Musyoka also hit out at the government’s handling of health and education, saying both sectors have been “turned into playgrounds for corruption.”
He condemned the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), calling it a “threat to the well-being of Kenyans.”
On governance, the Wiper leader accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of attempting to “capture independent institutions,” including Parliament, the Judiciary, and the media.
He also criticized Kenya’s foreign policy, alleging that the current regime’s diplomacy had “dismantled Kenya’s global reputation.”
“This regime sells arms and gets illegal gold in return. What we are witnessing is a horror movie directed by a know-it-all director who is both the star and the supporting cast of his own show,” he added.
The veteran politician also invoked the memory of the June 25, 2024 protests led by young Kenyans, widely referred to as the Gen Z demonstrations, in which several people were killed.
“A government that silences its own children h as lost the right to lead,” he said.
Outlining his vision, Musyoka promised a “Patriotic Administration” that would focus on job creation, affordable healthcare, and education reform.
He pledged to build a 24-hour economy, lower fuel and electricity costs, revive manufacturing, and provide youth enterprise funds in every county.
“We will create real jobs for the youth,” he said. “Professionalism, not Rutoism, will get you a job. No child should ever be denied education because of poverty.”
Musyoka’s announcement drew attendance from several political heavyweights, including former Cabinet Secretaries Fred Matiang’i and Eugene Wamalwa, Narc-Kenya leader Martha Karua, and National Assembly Speaker Emeritus Justin Muturi, who were present as “special observers.”
