Preparation to deliver secure elections in august 2022 by the National Police Service (NPS) received a boost by the launch of the Election Security Management Manual last Friday in Nakuru City, northwest of Nairobi.

The manual shall act as a one-stop resource reference guidebook to police officers and other security agencies during the electioneering period.

The reference handbook contains response mechanisms to election security in a collaborative and coordinated manner among National Police Service agencies.

The manual also outlines approaches to the functions of the police during elections key among them being; maintenance of law and order, provision of security during the election process, detection of election offences and detaining offenders.

It also takes into account the impact insecurity has on the integrity of elections and identifies issues of public disorder, criminal gangs, political incitement, election-related violence and election offences as potential threats.

Also provided for by the manual is the mobilization of additional security agencies including the Kenya Prison Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service among others to support NPS during elections.
