Kenyan police boss eyes Governorship seat

Rift Valley Regional coordinator George Natembeya has announced his gubernatorial bid.

In an interview with a local television station, Natembeya said he will vie for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in 2022.

"When you work away from your home region and people at home see the good work you are doing they tend to request you to return home and work for them. So when people at home call upon you, it's a request which you will accept,” said Natembeya during an interview with NTV.

Natembeya is the third candidate to declare his interest in the seat after MP Chris Wamalwa and Kakai Bisau announced their bids.

One of the three will succeed the incumbent Patrick Khaemba, who is serving his second and last term.

The outspoken commissioner has until February next year to quit in line with electoral commission rules, which require a civil servant eyeing any elective post to resign six months ahead of polls.
