Kenyan police boss resigns to concentrate on politics

George Natembeya, the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner, has resigned from his position.

Natembeya announced his resignation on Wednesday, January 12, noting that he is now concentrating entirely on his Trans Nzoia governorship campaign.

"I will from now on focus on politics as l seek the backing of residents of Trans Nzoia to become their governor," Natembeya announced during a press briefing in Nakuru, northwest of Nairobi.

He expressed his gratitude to the Interior Cabinet Secretary, Fred Matiang'i, and his Principal secretary, Karanja Kibicho, for giving him an opportunity to serve in that capacity.

Natembeya, who has worked in public service for more than two decades, expressed confidence that his knowledge and experience will offer him an advantage in the political arena.

He will battle the seat with five other aspirants including lawmaker Chris Wamalwa.
