Kenyan Presidential Election: William Ruto Gains As MP Joins His Camp

Kenya’s ruling party, Jubilee, has suffered a massive setback after one of its ardent supporters Gathoni Wamuchomba, defected to Deputy President William Ruto’s camp.

The woman representative’s defection came a few hours after meeting Ruto in his Nairobi home on Wednesday.

Wamuchomba, once a great defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta, said she took the decision following pressure from her constituents.

The news has been received with joy by Ruto’s allies.

“Warmest welcome to the hustler nation Kiambu Woman MP Gathoni Wamuchomba,” nominated Senator Millicent Omanga posted on her Facebook.

However, a section of Jubilee supporters led by lawmaker Ngunjiri Wambugu termed the move as a big loss to the party.

“I see that Hon Gathoni Wamuchomba has left our team and will now be playing for William Ruto’s brigade. Knowing her well, I am sure that she has thought this through, and she believes she’s doing the right thing,

“I don’t agree with her, but this doesn’t change the respect I have for her. I wish her well as we now engage from across each other, politically. As things stand I will not be surprised if we lose another one or two more valuable players,” said MP Wambugu.

He asked Jubilee members to fix the party before they lose more members to the opponents.
